Books, Books, Books

I've discovered a really cool blog called Vintage Kids Books My Kid Loves. This mom has devoted her time finding the great books we used to read as children and gives a little narrative about the book and why she loved it. Some of these books took me back to my childhood. I was a book worm. A major book worm. I remember when it started actually. I think I was 4 when I can really remember my parents reading to me and then at night I had the books on tape I could listen to before bed. I started reading at 4, my parents said. Then all the little chapter books came, like Frog and Toads Adventures and Little Bear. And the love for books grew and grew.
You know you're a book nerd when instead of hanging at the mall with friends ( I did that too)... you'd ride your Mongoose mountain bike (with a rack especially made to hold lots of books) to the local library and hang out reading and discovering new books. And then going home and staying up til 2 am reading- because I only have 3 pages left!
Unfortunately now I only resort to magazines and blogs, for times sake. I haven't found a book at the library that I truly want to devote my time to. Maybe I have to look harder. But I am happy to share reading with my children. We love story time before bed. And I get really happy when after they've gone to bed I see scattered books on their beds that they've been looking at with their night lights. When S recognizes the words cat, dad, and in- in books I get really excited. We'll soon have another reader in the house!
